Arnold Schwarzenegger has confirmed he will return for the sixth Terminator movie with James Cameron likely to be the producer.

“It is back,” Schwarzenegger told ScreenDaily. “It is moving forward. [James Cameron] has some good ideas of how to continue with the franchise.”

The former Governor of California, who was speaking at the Cannes Film Festival, delighted fans stating: “I will be in the movie”.

The news of another Terminator instalment is somewhat surprising after Terminator Genisys (2015) proved to be a huge failure at the box office.

However, thanks to the popularity of updated editions of films like Star Wars and Jurassic Park, there’s clearly a market for Terminator.

James Cameron’s involvement is very positive news for those hoping the new film will be a success. The Canadian director is currently busy working on four new Avatar movies but will serve as a creative consultant for the next Terminator.

Skydance Media CEO David Ellison recently spoke of the franchise’s future, saying: “We have something this year that we will be announcing for the franchise. It’s something we’re incredibly excited about and we think is the direction it needs to head.”

Ellison is likely to finance the next movie with Deadpool’s Tim Miller set to be named as the director.
