It’s been just over a month since the start of the 2014/15 season, which kicked off on the 16th of August. It may have only been a month, but a lot has happened already. Chelsea have shot out of the gates with a bolt, sitting pretty at the top of the leaderboard on 13 points. Manchester City are the defending champions with their pride on the line. Will they win the title for the second year in a row? Or will one of the big four muscle in and take over? Or, will one of the underdogs pip them all to the post? There’s plenty of time left to see what happens, but here are some of the highlights of the league so far:

The Leicester City triumph over Man Utd.

On the 21st September, Leicester City kicked the ball home to victory, with a 5-3 win over Man Utd on home turf. Not only that, but they did it as a newly promoted team, making a serious comeback after being down 1-3! New Man Utd manager, Louis van Gaal is expected to turn the team around following David Moyes-gate, but if this match is anything to go by, he’s got a lot more work to do.

Will Man Utd be eyeing up the top four from the outside like they did last season? Who knows what will happen between now and the end of the season, but they need to pull their football socks up if they want to be in with a chance of finishing at the top – they’re in the middle of the table at the moment…somewhere the Red Devils shouldn’t be, should they?!

When Jose Mourinho said it like it is

Gone are the days when the four powerhouse teams of the past – Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool & Arsenal – were safe. Mourinho admitted just how difficult the league is nowadays, following the recent draw between Chelsea and Man City. He said that the Premier league nowadays, ‘is not just different, it is crazy’!

It’s definitely one of the highlights of the season so far, because it emphasises the possibility that one of the underdogs further down the table could creep up and take the title. Sure, Chelsea are at the top now, but we still have many months of fixtures to go. You never know what’s going to happen! Just look at Swansea City, sitting in fifth place!

Lampard’s equaliser against his old club

Previously, Frank Lampard had said that he didn’t want to play against his old club, Chelsea, out of respect. However, during the game between Man City and Chelsea last weekend, he didn’t just play against his old team, but scored the equalising goal as well!

Much to the surprise of his old team, Lampard’s goal helped his new team draw against Chelsea, with five minutes to go.

Diego Costa’s Hat Trick

As the current top goalscorer of the season so far, Diego Costa’s run for Chelsea continues to flourish and, on the 13th of September, his hat trick in the match against Swansea City was one of his season’s highlights so far, helping his team run away with a 4-2 home victory.

He’s also been awarded August’s Player of the Month – not bad considering he’s only been with the squad since July and played no more than five matches so far!
