The Joker

DC’s Batman series is set for another instalment with Martin Scorsese on board to produce a movie focused on the Joker’s background according to Hollywood website, Deadline.

There will be much debate as to who will play the lead. Jared Leto is currently playing the character in the Suicide Squad series but he is expected to be ruled out.

Leto was the subject of a lot of criticism for his portrayal as many compared him to the iconic performance of Heath Ledger in The Dark Night (2008). Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr said the new film “will launch the character with a different actor, possibly younger”.

“The intention is to make a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-80s Gotham City that isn’t meant to feel like a DC movie as much as one of Scorsese’s films from that era, like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull or The King Of Comedy,” Fleming explained.

Although there is no word on where the project will sit on DC’s release schedule, the script is now well underway. Todd Phillips (The Hangover) will co-write the film with Scott Silver (8 Mile).
